Overstimulation from Meditation and from Celebrating the Holy Eucharist

September 2, 2024Brief catechism on our energetic anatomy
Humans are not single dimensional beings. We are a trinity as well, like our Creator, who is a Triune G-d. The whole universe was created so the smaller parts reflect the bigger whole; it is the reason why all lives are actually One in essence. A tiny drop of sea water has the same composition as that of the whole Ocean. St. Paul referred to humans as having a Spirit, Soul, and Body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). But the story doesn't end there. The "body" is composed of triplicity too - composed of the mind, emotion, and dense physical body. The budding science of psychology carries that assumption too naming it the "personality", so it is no longer debatable. The physical body, as we know it, is also a trinity that has subtle energetic counterparts that are not visible to the physical eyes. The human bio-energetic field can already be captured using sensitive films, known as Kirlian photography. This human bio-energetic field is also the basis for ancient healing techniques, such as the Acupuncture belonging to the Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Taoist spiritual tradition of China, and Ayurveda, the South Indian alternative traditional medicine. Most Eastern spiritual traditions believe in subtle bodies that interpenetrates our dense body - Hindu, Vedantic, Sikh, Buddhist, Hebrew Qabalism, Taoism, Sufi Islam - almost all, except for Christianity. There were early Church Fathers who believed in it but were anathematized as heretics. I suspect because Christianity chose to coo-opt with the Western materialist-empiricist world-view for political control.
This subtle energetic bodies have its own anatomy that roughly corresponds to the organs and glands of the dense physical bodies. Whatever happens in the energetic bodies, are reflected on the dense physical body. Illnesses and wellness begins there before they manifest down to the visible physical reality. But following the fractal universal concept of "As above, so below". Everything begins in the much higher principle of the Spirit or Soul. Then it trickles down to the mind, then the emotion, down to the subtle and physical bodies. It is the principle why in Christianity, it is believed that "sin" causes sickness and even death. It is not just spiritual, but of the physical body too.
Overstimulation from the practice of meditation
Mainstream society wishes to frame meditation simply as a relaxation technique to reduce stress. But this is far from reality. When we meditate, we are opening up our being to an ocean of subtle energies that we don't see. Some of these energies can potential harm us via our subtle energetic bodies if we don't know what we are doing; indeed, it is like playing with fire.
One of the main problem with meditation is overstimulation. Our energetic organs, also named "chakras" in Eastern yogic tradition react when we pray, or meditate, invokes for divine blessings, sing praise & worship songs, or even Church music, or any sound we hear from our surroundings. It is the principle behind "mantras" and Gregorian chants. Science has long discovered that certain sounds, like a high pitch sound, can break glass or vibrates matter. But there are certain mantras that can overwhelm these chakras when applied too much or chanted repeatedly in an unhinged way. This is called "overstimulation". People who were born and grew up in Eastern spiritual traditions gets adapted or immuned to it over time, but Westerners may not, because it is not in our culture to chant words repeatedly over a hundred times or more in a day.
So meditation techniques that use "mantras" that are repeated over and over again are more at risk of overstimulation. Especially those who use Eastern seed mantras. These seed mantras have vibrational powers of their own and usually doesnt have any contextual meaning at all. In Christian meditative practices, some mantras are also being used like, "Kyrie Eleison" (Greek word for "Lord have mercy on us"), which we believe are safe enough if used within reasonable limits. But repeating it for 3 hours may not be healthy at all. But some mantras maybe more powerful vibrationally, but very risky if used repeatedly over and over again for hours. One of them is "Maranatha" (Aramaic word for "Lord come to us"). Within it are 3 seed mantras that were hidden. In Western mystery traditions, seed mantras are also called the Lost sounds or words. MA-RA-na-THA are 3 of them. In many Eastern meditative traditions, the powerful "RA-MA" mantra is being used. If I am to meditate on this mantra, I will rather use the English translation, "Lord, Come to Us" over and over again. This is safer energetically on my chakras.
When meditating, whether using a mantra or not, energies are released into our bio-energetic bodies. And they impact our chakras. The most vulnereble is the solar plexus chakra. It is the center of emotional sensitivity. When this is overwhelmed, the person becomes overly-sensitive and easily triggered emotionally. That is the reason why meditation practices should be introduced gradually so the body can adjust first, before the "higher doses" are tried. Thus, we all heard of the saying, especially from those in the Christian Evangelical or Pentecostal Traditions (their mode of worship is singing/music and of invoking the Holy Spirit) that "backsliders" become worst than their former selves after being active in Church service for a while. This is because their solar plexus chakra has become so overstimulated that they become walking "time-bombs" of emotions waiting to explode anytime. The moment the motivating spirit of church members leave them, they begin to backslide and experience their worst selves. All sorts of stress and pent-up emotions surface and break lose!
I've also seen meditators who become "black magicians" over time due to an overstimulated "solar plexus" chakra. Instead of becoming spiritualized, it bloats the ego, and any minor transgression against them triggers them to retaliate and punish the offenders energetically. The essence of why they meditate is lost completely! Same is true with those who overuse mantras that are chanted. This overstimulates their creative throat chakra excessively, and as a result, stimulates the lower creative counterpart as well, resulting to all sorts of sexual deviancy.Overstimualtion from the Holy Eucharist and the religious life of the clergy
Unsystematic meditation and the unhinged chanting of mantras are not the only source of overstimulation. In fact, all forms of invocation of a higher force can cause it.
Ever wonder why there so many sexual scandals in the past involving Church people? No, it's not the toxicity of the masculine human species. G-d did not make anything or anyone evil at birth or due to their gender. Everything he created were good.
One is the traditional practice of celibacy among the clergy that is carried on to the present, but without the esoteric training of energy sublimation in the seminary. Creatives, artists, and even teachers have exceptionally stimulated throat chakras, which directly affect its lower counterpart - the sacral chakra (we read how creative people and artists have tumultuous romantic lives). This is more magnified in priests and the clergy because they practice abstract thinking to preach & write, they talk and teach a lot, sing the liturgy, they pray a lot (those who are not lazy), and use powerful "consecratory mantras" in celebrating the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Both chakras become so overwhelmed and when there is no release, or energy sublimation technique (apart from tennis or basketball) explosion happens! To my mind, two way to go for Vocation formation directors in the Roman Church: Abandon celibacy or abandon the denial and anathematization of the "Mystery teachings", which is actually the basis of the Holy Sacraments and embrace the spiritual technology exchange between Eastern and Western Spiritual traditions to find a fix to the problem. Teach esoteric energy sublimation in the seminary.
How about the clergy not belonging to the Roman tradition? Regardless of the tradition (Orthodox and Anglican clergy can be married people), priests can download huge amount of Divine energies when performing the Liturgy of the Eucharist and this can stimulate the chakras. This is even if they see it as mere symbols to remind people of the Last Supper, and don't believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. If they perform the ritual correctly, it downloads divine energy to the consciousness, moreso, if they were ordained properly by a Bishop who had apostolic succession.
The solution is the proper and constructive release of spiritual energies through being active in the parish's pastoral service ministry. And the second one is not to be too greedy in performing too many "Masses" in a day. It is a self-care not to do it. It will lead to overstimulation and will give more problem to the Church in the long run!
Ask a priest what he internally feels after officiating the 3rd Eucharistic celebration for the day. You will be surprised if your priest is honest enough! ;-)------------------ Image credit:
